Who is permitted to nominate candidates?
Nominators should be familiar with the candidate’s professional accomplishments and personal qualities. Nominators must not be family members, and self-nominations are not permitted. The quality of the nomination, insofar as it shows that the Nominator knows and supports the Nominee, will be a factor in the selection of Fellows.

Do I need to be nominated in order to apply?
Yes, you must be nominated in order to apply for the Fellowship.

Are entrepreneurs from all industries eligible to apply?
Yes. Both for-profit and social entrepreneurs are eligible.

Will only New York City residents be considered?
No. We are looking to attract international as well as local nominees.

What are you looking for in an ideal candidate?
Ideal candidates are entrepreneurs at the helm of a fast-growing NYC-based or internationally-based company who are excited about being a part of and contributing to an exclusive community of industry leaders that will help them grow their businesses.

When is the deadline for nominations/applications?
The nomination/application process for the 2017 NYC Venture Fellows begins in July 2016. Please feel free to email us at with any questions and/or to be placed on the mailing list for updates about the next application cycle.

What type of mentorship will NYC Venture Fellows receive?
Each Fellow will be paired with a Mentor from a pool consisting of 30+ top executives representing a variety of industries. Mentors and Fellows will meet at least four times throughout the program for one-on-one executive-level mentoring. Matches will be made to ensure each Fellow benefits from multiple perspectives relevant to his or her circumstances. Please see the Mentors page on the website for a list of Mentors for the current class of Fellows.

When does the fellowship start and end?
The next cycle of the Fellowship begins in December 2016 and ends in December 2017. A detailed itinerary of events will be sent to accepted fellows in early December 2016.

What is the anticipated time commitment for being a Fellow?
Fellows will participate in core workshops, networking sessions, and events once a month from December 2016 – December 2017, during which they will engage with the other Fellows–both NYC-based and international–and other program stakeholders. Fellows will also be invited to participate in program-related or sponsored events on a quarterly basis. All event dates and times will be announced well in advance to allow Fellows to plan their schedules accordingly. Fellows will also be encouraged to connect with their mentors quarterly, and will be invited to attend supplemental networking sessions, industry-related events, and informal seminars throughout their Fellowship.

When will I receive notice that I was accepted/not accepted for the fellowship?
Applicants receive notice via email in November 2016.

How many Fellows will be selected?
Approximately 30 Fellows.

Do I get to choose my Mentor?
Not directly. However, 92Y, NYCEDC and the Selection Committee will pair Fellows with a Mentor based on a combination of the Fellow’s specific skills and interests, the Mentor’s expertise and background, and the results of a ‘speed-matching’ session between Fellows and Mentors that will take place at the beginning of the program cycle.
